The Maker

Kevin Tambascio

I'm a woodturner in Northeast Ohio making one-of-a-kind bowls, vessels, and art pieces from locally sourced and salvaged timber. Each piece is shaped by hand on the lathe, finished to suit the wood, and made to preserve the character that first drew me to the blank.

I'm especially drawn to spalted maple, cherry, ash, live edges, natural checks, and reclaimed wood — the marks that make a piece feel specific, not manufactured. My philosophy is minimalist intervention: let the wood dictate the form.

The Materials

Wood Species & Craft

Every handcrafted wood bowl starts with understanding the tree it came from. Spalted maple brings dramatic zone lines and soft color variation. Cherry deepens to a rich amber over time. White ash offers bold, open grain suited to larger statement pieces. Reclaimed and salvaged wood adds history that a fresh blank never can. Functional pieces are finished with food-safe oils and waxes chosen for the wood and intended use. Decorative vessels may use specialty finishes selected for color, contrast, or surface character.
